Onda Kokoro est oncologue, appelée Dr Onkoro en abrégé par son entourage, qui la taquine en disant qu'elle est née pour cette voie. Elle s'est mariée avec Takumi, qu'elle connaît depuis qu'elle est étudiante, et ils ont eu un fils. La vie se déroulait sans problème pour elle. Mais il y a trois mois, son mari a eu un accident et est resté inconscient bien qu'il ait subi une opération chirurgicale d'urgence. Bien que Kokoro affiche un visage courageux au travail, elle n'a toujours pas réussi à accepter la réalité. Un jour, elle rencontre Kajiyama Kaoru, une gastro-entérologue compétente qui a été transférée pour travailler à l'hôpital. Kaoru comprend la nécessité de l'oncologie en tant que chirurgien et apporte à Kokoro un soutien émotionnel avec sa personnalité radieuse. Elle devient une amie chère de Kokoro qui ressent une éclaircie dans sa vie personnelle et professionnelle...
